Disability Pride Bangladesh on Tuesday hosted an “Advocacy, Allyship, and Networking Meeting” in Uttara, Dhaka, to promote inclusion and uphold the rights of persons with disabilities.
Bringing together allies, and community stakeholders, the meeting served as a platform for meaningful dialogue, experience-sharing, and collective strategising. Participants engaged in discussions surrounding inclusive policy-making, social integration, and the importance of sustained allyship in building a more equitable society.
Discussions also highlighted the importance of accessibility, representation, and the active involvement of persons with disabilities in all sectors of life.
Executive Director of Disability Pride Bangladesh, Mohua Jarin, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasising that their presence and insights significantly contributed to advancing the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities in Bangladesh.
The event underscored the urgent need for collaborative action and solidarity across sectors to ensure accessibility, representation, and empowerment for people with disabilities.
Nazneen Akhtari, Acting Deputy Director of the Department of Women Affairs; Zamal Naser Khan, Thana Youth Development Officer of Gulshan unit; Tasaffy Hossain, Founder and Coordinator of Bonhishikha – Unlearn Gender; Israt Laila, Project Coordinator of Dalit Women Forum; and others were present at the programme.
It is worth mentioning that Disability Pride Bangladesh (DPB) is a rights-based feminist organisation, established in March 2021, dedicated to empowering disabled women, girls, and young people in Bangladesh.
The organisation advocates for disability rights, promotes mental health, and actively works to combat gender-based violence (GBV).
DPB’s mission is to build an inclusive society where persons with disabilities can live with dignity, equality, and independence through education, advocacy, and community-driven initiatives.
The organisation envisions a just and accepting Bangladesh where every individual, regardless of ability, is valued and enjoys equal opportunities. DPB strives to ensure that people with disabilities thrive as respected, active members of society.
