Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Dhaka Capitals has issued a special statement in response to reports linking the club to a spot-fixing probe. The statement, published on the team's official Facebook page on Tuesday, denies direct management culpability and pledges full cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
The move follows a report in a national daily on Monday, which claimed that a three-member independent investigation committee, formed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), had named three franchises—including Dhaka Capitals—as being under suspicion. The committee is set to submit its preliminary report to BCB president Aminul Islam within the next week.
In their statement, the franchise asserted that they have been in "close contact" with the BCB's investigation committee from the outset and have provided all requested information. "We are fully cooperating with the investigation process and will continue to do so in the future," the statement read.
Dhaka Capitals strongly defended its management, stating that to place blame on them without evidence was "deeply disrespectful."
The statement clarified that "as spot-fixing is a matter at the individual level, we had no opportunity to be aware beforehand whether any player or staff was involved."
However, the club also promised swift and severe action should any of its members be found guilty. "We have clearly informed the inquiry committee that if any player or staff is proven guilty, we will take the highest severe action ourselves."
The statement concluded by reiterating the franchise's commitment to "integrity, transparency, and fair play," as well as its long-standing dedication to developing young cricketers.
It also expressed hope that one day, the team would bring the BPL title to its supporters.
