Chhayanaut organised its annual Barsha Utsab on Friday evening, celebrating the beauty of the monsoon with music and remembering poet Sufia Kamal, the founding president of Chhayanaut. The colourful programme was held at the Chhayanaut Sangskriti Bhaban auditorium in Dhanmondi.
The event began at 7pm with noted singer Iffat Ara Dewan’s soulful performance of Aji Jhorer Raate Tomar Abhisar. Her melodious voice perfectly set the mood for an evening dedicated to seasonal ragas, monsoon songs and fond memories.
One by one, talented artistes took the stage, offering a rich variety of songs and classical ragas. Ushashi Nag rendered Shuddha Sarang, while Shrabonti Dhar mesmerised the audience with Jhoro Jhoro Bari Jhore Ambar Byapiya. Sudipto Shekhar De performed raga Desh, and Satyam Kumar Debnath presented Eso Shyamolosundoro, both reflecting the lush green moods of the rainy season.
Swapna Saha’s raga Chhayanaut and Sirajum Munira’s raga Kedar brought the audience closer to the deep emotion of the season. Nusrat Jahan Runa sang Bohu Juger Opar Hote, while Sejuti Barua performed Godhuli Gogone Megh, both evoking nostalgia and nature’s beauty.
The programme continued with Priyantu Dev’s Meghmedur Boroshay, Samudra Shubhom’s raga Jayjayanti, and performances by Tahmid Wasif Ribhu, Rifat Ahmed Iman and Minhajul Hasan Iman.
Towards the end, Manish Sarkar, Farzana Akhtar Popy and Afroza Rupa performed monsoon classics like Jhor Jhor Jhore Shaon Dhara, Jhoro Jhoro Borishe Baridhara, and Meghmallhar.
The evening was a heartfelt tribute to the monsoon and poet Sufia Kamal’s memory, keeping alive Chhayanaut’s tradition of celebrating nature’s seasons with music.
