The prices of vegetables in Ishwardi markets fell as the adequate supply of of those. Vegetable vendors said that most vegetables, except for brinjal, bitter gourd, Kachu, and Kakrol, were being sold below Tk 50 per kg. Some vegetables were being sold at Tk 20 per kg. Buyers are buying those with relief and returning home.
It is learnt, before the Ramadan, the prices of all kinds of daily necessities including potatoes were about Taka 100 per kg, green chilli Taka 400 per kg, Onion Taka 200 per kg. The common kitchen vegetables potatoes were out of reach of buyers. Now, those potatoes are being sold at Tk 20, Onions at Tk 50, and the Green chilli at Tk 40 per kg. Buyers also said that the prices of vegetables are currently at a tolerable level.
During a visit to Ishwardi market on Tuesday afternoon, it was seen that all kinds of vegetables have been arranged in shops. Prices are also low. Shopkeepers are selling these vegetables starting from Tk 20 to 60. However, tomatoes are being sold at Tk 120, and bitter gourd and kakrol at Tk 60 per kg. Among other vegetables, brinjal is being sold at 50 Taka per kg , Kachu at 50, Cucumber at 40, Papaya at 30, Patal at 30, Jhinga at 20 Ladys finger at 20, Radish at 20. Apart from this, the shopkeepers are selling gourd at Tk 30 each, a bunch of banana at 30 and a bunch of red and green leafy vegetables at Tk 10.
According to the Ishwardi Upazila Agriculture office sources, vegetables are produced in seven unions and municipal areas of the upazila. However, vegetable production is highest in Lokunda, Solimpur and Muladuli unions. Earlier, vegetables were produced only during winter. Now, summer vegetables are also being produced. Due to this, the supply of vegetables in the markets of Ishwardi is now abundant and the prices are also low.
Amin Uddin, a retail vegetable seller in the market said that earlier, the supply of vegetables was low in May-June months. But now there is no shortage of vegetables. The supply of almost all types of vegetables in the market is sufficient. The prices are also at a tolerable level. Sales are also good. People are now getting relief by buying vegetables. No one has any complaints. No one is even haggling over the price.
Saiful Islam, who came to the market to buy vegetables, said that the vegetables prices, which were sold at abnormal high for a long time, is now at a normal level. I had to buy green chilies at Taka 400-500per kg, potatoes at Taka 100 per kg, and onions at Taka 200 per kg. The prices of other daily necessities were also high. But we can buy these daily necessities at much lower prices than those prices. Now I am getting relief by buying vegetables. He said that we all hope that the prices of these comforting daily necessities will remain constant for all the time.
