BSF returns body of Bangladeshi in Naogaon

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has returned the body of a Bangladeshi man three days after he was shot dead along the Naogaon border.

Ibrahim, 40, from Rodgram village in Sapahar upazila, was killed by BSF gunfire inside Indian territory near the Nitpur border in Porsha upazila of Bangladesh.

According to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and local sources, the incident occurred late Wednesday night  when Ibrahim crossed into Agrabad in India to bring back livestock. While returning at dawn with a pair of buffaloes, members of the BSF's Agrabad camp opened fire, killing him on the spot. The BSF then took possession of the body.

Initially, the BSF denied involvement when contacted by BGB officials. Multiple letters were later exchanged between the border forces of the two countries, leading to a breakthrough when the BSF finally admitted the shooting two days later. On Saturday night, following a flag meeting between company commanders of BGB and BSF, the body was formally handed over to Bangladesh.

Subedar Mahfuzur Rahman, in charge of BGB's Nitpur camp under Naogaon-16 Battalion, confirmed the development. "At first, BSF denied the shooting. After repeated communication and official correspondence, they admitted to the incident and returned the body," he said.

Officer-in-Charge of Sapahar Police Station Abdul Aziz noted that since the shooting occurred inside India, the post-mortem was conducted there. The body was later handed over to the victim's family following completion of legal formalities.
