Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt is set to return to the big screen in high-speed style with his latest film F1, a racing drama directed by Top Gun: Maverick filmmaker Joseph Kosinski. The much-anticipated movie will be released in cinemas across the United States and Canada, including IMAX screens, on June 27.
The film is being made with the official backing of Formula 1 and seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who also serves as a co-producer through his company, Dawn Apollo Films.
In F1, Brad Pitt plays the role of Sonny Hayes, a former Formula 1 driver whose career ended abruptly after a crash in the 1990s. Years later, he makes an unexpected return to the grid, recruited by his old teammate, portrayed by Oscar-winning actor Javier Bardem, to drive for APXGP — a struggling team fighting to stay relevant in the sport.
The story heats up with the arrival of a young rookie driver, Joshua 'Noah' Pearce, played by British actor Damson Idris. The film promises an exciting battle between the veteran’s experience and the rookie’s hunger to prove himself.
What makes F1 truly unique is its strong focus on realism. Many of the film’s key scenes were shot during actual Formula 1 race weekends at famous tracks like Silverstone, Monaco, Spa, and Mexico City. Impressively, Brad Pitt himself drove a modified Formula 2 car at speeds reaching 180 miles per hour for several sequences.
One of the film’s highlights includes Hayes’ character winning the 2024 Mexican Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton personally ensured the film’s authenticity, arranging access to real F1 paddocks and resources. With star power and adrenaline-fueled action, F1 is set to thrill audiences worldwide next summer.
