The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has sent a legal notice to Daily Jugantor editor Abdul Hai Sikder, demanding an apology within five days for allegedly intentionally publishing news implicating the BNP in the Sohag murder.
BNP's Legal Affairs Secretary and Nationalist Lawyers Forum Secretary General Barrister Kaiser Kamal sent the notice on Sunday (July 13).
Later, at a press conference, Barrister Kaiser Kamal said, "An unexpected and brutal murder took place last Wednesday. Every person in the country, including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has condemned this incident."
On behalf of our party, Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir have demanded immediate justice for the real
criminals.
But unfortunately, Jugantor newspaper published a news story directly implicating BNP. However, the initial investigation by the police and administration revealed that it was mainly a business dispute. However, the report mentions that the murder was caused by BNP extortion, which is completely baseless. For this reason, we have sent a legal notice to the editor of Jugantar. The notice asks the newspaper to publish the report in an appropriate place, apologizing.
Nationalist Lawyers Forum Organizing Secretary Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, Supreme Court Branch Member Secretary Gazi Touhidul Islam, and Advocate Maqsud Ullah were present at the press conference.
