In a special raid in the forested area of Bilashi Dwip, near the Hwaikong border in Teknaf upazila, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including one locally-made pistol, 10 rounds of rifle ammunition, three 60 mm mortar shells, and four Arges hand grenades. Additionally, two body-set fuses and three extra fuses were also seized.

The information was confirmed through a press release issued on Monday morning by Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commander of the 64 BGB Battalion based in Ukhiya.

According to the press release, the operation was carried out based on intelligence reports of illegal arms trafficking through the Hwaikong border area. In response, BGB intensified patrols along that section of the border. On Sunday night, a patrol team from the Hwaikong BGB outpost launched a combing operation in the forested area of Bilashi Dwip, where they discovered a white bag containing the weapons and explosives.

While no suspects or traffickers were apprehended during the raid, BGB stated that intelligence efforts are ongoing to identify and bring those involved to justice.

The seized weapons and ammunition have been handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station as evidence. Measures are also being taken to safely dispose of the mortar shells and grenades. Legal proceedings against the suspected individuals involved in arms trafficking are currently underway.
