Both Men’s and Women’s chess teams of Bangladesh suffered defeats in the fourth round held in the 45th Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary on Saturday.
In fact Bangladesh chess team have been going through ups and downs when after winning first round suffered defeat in the second and came back in the third round with easy wins but again went down in the fourth round.
After losing the fourth roun both the Women’s and Men’s teams are now at 65th and 78th positions respectively, with managing four points each from four rounds.
Fide Master Manon Reja Neer drew with the world junior champion in 2023 Grand Master Master Maurizzi Marc`andria, but rest of his three team-mates lost their respective games to suffer a 3.5-0.5 defeat to France in the open division.
International Master Fahad Rahman lost to GM Vachier-Lagrave Maxime, GM Enamul Hossain lost to GM Fressinet Laurent and GM Niaz Murshed lost to GM Lagarde Maxime.
In the Women’s division, Fide Master twin-sister Walijah Ahmed and Wadifa Ahmed could manage half point each but two others, Noshin Anjum lost and Nusrat Jahan Alo went down, leaving Bangladesh to a 3-1 defeat to Austria.
Elder sister Walijah Ahmed drew WIM Exler Veronika while younger sister Wadifa Ahmed drew with WIM Hapala Elisabeth when Noshin Anjum lost to WGM Theissl Pokorna Regina and Nusrat Jahan Alo lost to WIM Schloffer Jasmin-Denise in the fourth round.
Bangladesh men's team will play against Jordan while the women's team will face Botswana Today.
