Bangladesh make winning start

Bangladesh national junior hockey team made their camapaign in the Youth Asia Cup Hockey   with winning note on Tuesday in Mauscat, Oman.   

Bangladesh, who Keeping sights on a spot in next year’s Junior World Cup left the country, made the impressive start defeating the hosts Oman 3-1 in their first match in Group ‘B’ on Tuesday. The Youth Asia Cup and the Youth World Cup qualifiers will be held next year in India.   

A total of seven teams from Asia including host India will have chance to play in the World Cup. If Bangladesh could finish among the top six in the ongoing Youth Asia Cup in Oman, will have the opportunity to play in the Youth World Cup for the first time when they make it possitively after defeating the hosts Oman.

Mohammad Hassan scored one and his namesake Mohammad Hasan scored twice while Bangladesh took the lead on 37th minute with the former scoring a field goal and the later doubled the margin just in the enxt minute with another field goal (2-0). Bangladesh increased the lead scoring in the third quarter, when they converted a penalty corner (3-0). 

Oman managed to reduce the margin scoring one goal with a penalty stroke in the fourth quarter. Just five minutes before the final whistle on 55th minute (31). 

Bangladesh maiantained all win records in six meetings against Oman in the history of this competition.

After a convincing victory over host Oman, spirited Bangladesh national U-21 hockey team faces strong Pakistan today.  

The match will kick off at 18:45 pm Bangladesh time and remaining two group matches against Malaysia and China on November 30 and December 1 respectively at the same venue.

The eleventh edition of the Junior Asia Cup will continue till December 4, with ten teams, divided into two groups, will take part in the event.

The top six teams will qualify for the next year's Hockey Junior World Cup.

Bangladesh junior hockey team earlier confirmed their spot in the ongoing Junior Asia Cup after emerging champions in the qualifiers with a 7-6 victory over hosts Oman in the final held in January.
