A new survey by the Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) has found that a majority of businesses -- 72% -- in Bangladesh believe tax officials are widely corrupt.

The survey was released at a dialogue, titled "Reform in Corporate Tax and VAT: A Justice Perspective for NBR", organised by CPD in Dhaka on Tuesday.

The findings also showed that 82% of respondents believe the country's tax system is unfair, and about four out of five businesses pointed to a lack of accountability among tax officials.

The survey was conducted based on responses from representatives of 123 companies in December 2024.

The event, held at a hotel in Gulshan, was attended by NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan, along with senior revenue officials, business leaders, and economists.
