Members of the Coast Guard seized 40 maunds of 'Jatka' ( small fry-fish of the large fish species) from Patharghata Fish Landing Centre around 9-00 AM Saturday. However, no one was arrested in this connection.
The seized Jatka were distributed among the orphanages, madrashas and the poor people through the local officials of the Department of Fisheries.
Lieutenant Ranak Hasan Shahriar, Commander of Patharghata Coast Guard station informed, ' acting on a tip-off, the Coast Guard team conducted an operation at the Patharghata BFDC Fish Landing Centre and recovered 40 maunds of Jatka from there. Sensing the presence of the Coast Guard team, the fish traders managed to escape from the area leaving those Jatka there'.
He also informed the Coast Guard will continue its operation to ensure proper breeding of Hilsha fish and to resist the catching of Jatka from the sea.
