21 individuals, institutions nominated for National Tree Plantation Award

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has nominated 21 individuals and institutions in seven categories for the “National Tree Plantation Award 2024” in recognition of their outstanding contributions to afforestation and environmental conservation.

In the ‘Ka’ category (educational institutions), Dalgram Bi-Mukhi High School of Lalmonirhat secured first place, while Government Michael Madhusudan College in Jashore and Jhenaidah Textile Engineering College placed second and third respectively, said an official release.

Under the ‘Kha’ category (government and non-government institutions), the Office of the Upazila Nirbahi Officer in Manikchhari, Khagrachhari clinched first place. Kushtia Zila Parishad and Barind Multipurpose Development Authority in Rajshahi secured the second and third positions.

In the ‘Ga’ category (individual tree plantation), Dilruba Rahman from Tangail secured the top position, followed by Muhammad Yusuf from Chattogram and Hasina Akhter from Lalmonirhat in second and third place respectively.

Sohel Nursery from Rangpur topped the ‘Gha’ category (private nurseries), while Janani Garden Center of Munshiganj and Mou Nursery of Tangail were placed second and third.

In the ‘Uo’ category (individual/institutional rooftop gardens), the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Natore secured first place.

The Regional Election Office in Rajshahi (Delowar Hossain and Sabina Yasmin) and Nashuha Sadaf from Chattogram won second and third places respectively.

Among gardens developed by the Forest Department (category ‘Cha’), the Chattogram North Forest Division took first place, while the Coastal Forest Division in Noakhali and Social Forest Division in Jashore placed second and third.

In the ‘Chha’ category (research, conservation or innovation related to trees), the Bangladesh Forest Research Institute in Chattogram bagged the top award.

The RIMS Unit of the Forest Department in Dhaka and Forester Md Touhidur Rahman from the same department secured second and third spots.

Each first-place winner will receive a certificate, a crest and an account payee cheque of Tk 1,00,000. The second and third place winners will receive Tk 75,000 and Tk 50,000 respectively, along with certificates and crests.
