Two young men were handed over to police by locals in Sharankhola on Sunday night after being caught with yaba tablets. During the incident, three villagers were injured in an attack reportedly carried out by drug users. The two detainees were sent to court in Bagerhat on Monday afternoon.
According to Sharankhola Police Station, the arrests occurred around 10 PM in the village of Chalitabunia, Southkhali Union. Locals caught Sojib Hawlader (23), son of Ismail Hawlader of Chalitabunia, and Miraj Hawlader (22), son of Siddiqur Rahman of South Southkhali, while they were allegedly selling and using drugs. During the scuffle, villagers Shafiqul Islam (35), Nasim Khan (40), and Riyadul Hawlader (38) sustained injuries, with Shafiqul admitted to Sharankhola Hospital due to a serious head injury.
Residents allege the two had been using the Chalitabunia Government Primary School premises at night for drug gatherings, drawing local youth into addiction. Despite repeated warnings, the accused reportedly ignored them and issued threats.
Officer-in-Charge Md. Shahidullah confirmed that four yaba tablets were recovered. A drug case has been filed under the Narcotics Control Act by SI Liton Kumar Das of Tafalbari Police Outpost.
