Three people, including two engineers, were killed when a wall of an under-construction building collapsed in Jashore’s Circuit House area.
The accident took place around 12 PM on Tuesday at the under-construction “Building for Future” located at Iqbal Manzil.
The dead have been identified as Mizanur Rahman, 35), a project engineer from Kushtia; Azizul Islam, a site engineer from Dinajpur; and Nuru, 45, a construction worker from Chapainawabganj. Their full addresses are yet to be confirmed. Tamal Ahmed, a local resident and convener of the district unit of Jubo Dal, said the six-storey building at Iqbal Manzil had one side completed, while the western part was still under construction. The cornice on the fifth floor of that section collapsed, leading to the deaths.
Mujibur Rahman, a construction worker at the site, said they were working on the western side of the fifth floor in the morning when the cornice suddenly gave way.
The three victims fell and were critically injured. They were rushed to Jashore General Hospital where doctors at the emergency department declared all three dead.
Jashore Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Hasnat confirmed that the bodies have been kept at the morgue of Jashore General Hospital. Following the incident, police and fire service personnel visited the site.
