Two minor cousins drowned in a pond in Kalia upazila of Narail district on Saturday evening.
The victims were identified as five-year-old Sakib Sheikh, son of Jakat Sheikh, and four-year-old Manik Islam, Sakib’s nephew. Both children lived at Uttar Khashial village under Khashial union. Manik’s family is originally from Barishal, he had been residing with his mother at his maternal uncle’s house in the same village. According to family members and locals, the two boys were playing together in the courtyard, as they often did. When they did not return home by evening, their families began searching for them. Their bodies were later recovered floating in a nearby pond around 8:30 pm.
Naragati Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Ashiqur Rahman said police conducted a preliminary investigation and handed over the bodies to the families. An unnatural death case has been filed in connection with the incident.
