World Philosophy Day oberved at DU

Dhaka University on Thursday observed World Philosophy Day to hammer home the motto ‘Philosophy to Aid the World’, upholding the spirit of liberalism, non-communalism and moral values. Dhaka University Phyloshopy Department, Govindra Dev Research Center, Moral Development Centre and Dhaka University Philosophy Alumni Association jointly organized the day-long programmes, including seminar, discussion, publishing souvenir and debate on philosophy to mark the Day.

As part of the programmes, a discussion meeting was held at DU TSC Auditorium with DU Philosophy Department Chairman Prof. Sajahan Miya in the chair. DU Vice Chancellor Prof Akhtaruzzaman graced the programme as the chief guest while Arts Faculty Dean Prof.Delowar Hossain spoke as the special guest.

In his speech, Prof Akhtaruzzaman advised the students to be imbued with the spirit of liberal attitute, non-communalism and moral values through studing Philosophy. “Philosophy teachs us to help expose the truth. It also plays a key role to build a non-prejudiced society,” DU VC stated.

Professor of DU Philosophy Department Prof M Matiur Rahman presented the keynote speech on the occasion. Director of Moral Development Center Prof Dr Harun, DU Philosophy Alumni Association general secretary Mahfuza Rahman Chowdhury also spoke.
