Work underway to supply safe, nutritious food to consumers: Sadhan

Published : 16 Apr 2022 09:31 PM

Agricultural production has increased many times during the tenure of the present government due to the farmer friendly policy and now work is underway to reach consumers with safe and nutritious food, said Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder.

“Farmers’ capacity to produce paddy, fish, meat and vegetables has increased. Food should be safe everywhere from farmer's field to consumer's table. Food can become unsafe at any stage of this chain. That is why consumers need to be aware first,” he said.

He mentioned that consumer awareness will play a role in ensuring safe food.

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Golden Jubilee of Independence: Expectations and Achievements in Food Security and Consumer Protection’ organized by Voluntary Consumers Training and Awareness Society (VOCTA) at Dhaka University's Centre for Advanced Research in Sciences (CARS) auditorium on Saturday.

VOCTA President Prof Hossain Uddin Shekhar presided over the programme.

Dr Mizanur Rahman, Prof of Marketing department at the University of Dhaka, and Syed Ishtiaq Reza, CEO of Global Television were present as chief guests.

Dr Mizanur Rahman said that no other country in the world has market monitoring like our country.

He also called for the inclusion of the subject of safe and nutritious food in the curriculum.

Syed Ishtiaq Reza said that there is no crisis of supply and demand in the market.

“Crisis is often created due to lack of information,” he added.

VOCTA Director Mohsinul Karim presented the keynote address at the seminar.
