A young woman was held while attempting to assault an armed team of detectives in the city’s Uttara on March 8 this year. Police identified the young woman as Nazna Akter Anita,33, daughter of Siddiqur Rahman, hailing from Koyra village under Kalkini Upazila of Madaripur district. Bangladesh Post exclusively collected a copy of the video clip.

Talking to Bangladesh Post, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB- East) Sikder Hasan Imam said, “On a written complaint from the victim and approval from senior officers, a team of DB led by me, raided the Uttara residence of Nazna.” “But on seeing the DB personnel in her flat, the angry lady swooped on us and attempted to chop us with a sharp weapon. But we managed to save ourselves’’ he added.

In the video clip, some DB personnel, some wearing DB jackets, were seen at the flat of Nazna while Nazna was repeatedly seen attempting to attack the police with a sharp weapon. However, another young man, identified as Zahirul Islam who is the husband of Nazna, was seen resisting her from attacking the detectives.

Nazna also seen shouting at the police and attempting to gather crowds by claiming that she was being attacked by robbers. How dare you come to my office? Call my mother-in -law, call my lawyer, she continued shouting. According to the police documents, AKM Sazzadul Karim, who introduced himself as a director of the Palmal Group of Industries, one of the leading RMG manufacturers, lodged a criminal case against Nazna, her husband Zahirul and some other unidentified criminals for blackmailing him.

The case number is 07 (date 08/03/2019) of Uttara East Police Station, which was recorded on March 8 this year. The case is currently being investigated by Inspector Mohammad Mamunur Rahman of DB (East). In the case statement, the complainant said, “On January 15, Nazna invited me to tea at her flat, when I had gone near the Bank Asia Uttara Branch. I along with one with Fatema Nisa, known to me, went to Nazna’s residence at house No# 81, Road No# 7 of Uttara Sector No# 04 in my car.”

While I was talking to Nazna inside her flat, some six to seven young men, claiming themselves members of DB police, held me hostage at gunpoint. They forcibly took some indecent pictures with Fatema, the case statement further said. According to the case, the blackmailer group forced me to sign on a revenue stamp of Tk 300, where they stated that I had a loan of Tk 60 lakh from Nazna, the victim said.

The miscreants kept Sazzadul hostage at the residence the whole night. On the morning of January 16, they (Nazna and her men) forced me to make a phone call to my residence for money, he alleged. As a result, victim Sazzadul’s brother, Rezaul Karim and others, deposited Tk 15 lakh in Nazna’s three banks accounts and another Tk 5 lakh in the bank account of Nazna’s husband Zahirul.

Bangladesh Post collected some bank documents which showed that 15 Tk lakh was deposited in three accounts of Nazna. These were account No # 015340067** at Bank Asia’s Uttara Branch, account No# 15301023343070** of BRAC Bank’s Uttara Jashim Uddin Branch, account No# 117.101.4521** of Dutch- Bangla Bank’s Gulshan Branch. These three bank accounts were Nazna’s. Another Tk 5 lakh was deposited in account No#15191033567110** of BRAC Bank which is owned by Nazna’s husband Zahirul, another accused. ‘On getting Tk 20 lakh, they released me. But Nazna and her gang members using the mobile phone numbers 017529979**,017169226**,016405678**,016405678**,013160480** threatened me every day saying they will upload the indecent pictures of me and Fatema on the internet, unless I give her (Nazna) another 40 lakh.

This correspondent also talked to accused Nazna over the allegation against her by Sazzadul. She said, “I thought Sazzadul was a very good man. But now I think he is a very nasty man.” About the attempted assault on DB personnel when they raided her flat, the accused Nazna said, “The DB officer touched my body.” Police repeatedly denied the claim. Admitting her attempt to attack DB personnel with sharp weapon, she further said, “In what situation, a woman tries to assault police, you also know.”

Nazna said, around one month ago, she submitted a complaint to the IGP complaint cell at Police Headquarters, which is under investigation. She also claimed that Sazzadul lodged a counter case against her after she filed a case against him before the court. Nazma claimed after she came out of jail on bail, AC Imam threatened her. However, Imam denied the allegation.
