Weeklong art exhibition begins at DU

The weeklong annual art exhibition organised by the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Centre for Gender and Development Studies of Dhaka University (DU) on the occasion of International Women’s Day began at Zainul Gallery of the Fine Art faculty on the campus on Sunday.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Akhtaruzzaman inaugurated the exhibition organised with a pledge to make artworks a medium of intellectual exercise for social development.

The artworks of 22 artists have been put on display at the exhibition.

Director of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib Centre for Gender and Development Studies Dr. Tania Haque presided over the programme.

DU Fine Art faculty Dean Prof Nisar Hossain addressed the function as special guests. 

Speaking on the occasion, Prof Akhtaruzzaman said, Bangamata assisted the father of the nation in all his work from behind the scenes. She gave him courage and inspiration in all movements and struggles.

“These artworks are creative and symbols of non-communalism. These artworks and creativities have also the power for social advancement,” he added.
