Water level increase in Jamuna harm farmers in Sonatala char area

As the water level in the Jamuna River continues to rise, the cannabis paddy and chilli planted in 9 chars at Sonatala in Bogra have been severely damaged. As a result, hands have fallen on the heads of the people in the char areas.

As the water level in the Jamuna River flowing over SonatalaUpazila of Bogra continues to rise, 25 hectares of land in 9 chars of the two unions of the upazila have been severely damaged.

Nearly 12,000 farmers in 18 villages of 9 chars of the upazila were relieved when they planted Aush Aman and Ganjia paddy after two rounds of floods this year.

People in the char region have been dreaming of planting Aush, Aman paddy as well as Ganjia paddy and chilli after two floods this year. They thought that they would make up for the loss caused by the floods in the second phase of this year in the paddy and chilli fields planted in the third phase. Their dream was shattered by the untimely flood.

Agriculture Officer Mohammad Masud Ahmed said 25 hectares of land in the char area had been severely damaged due to incessant rains in the last few days and the rising water level of the Jamuna River.
