Vision Centre launched at Kachua

A Vision Centre was inaugurated virtually at Kachua in Chandpur on Thursday, stated a press release issued by Orbis International Bangladesh. 

‘Making Primary Eye Care Services Available and Accessible through Vision Centre at Rural Community’ project of Orbis International Bangladesh provided financial and technical support to establish this vision center with kind support from Orbis Hong Kong. 

Managed by Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur, this center will provide primary eye care services to the population of the area.

Generous Donors from Hong Kong, Officials of Orbis Hong Kong and Bangladesh as well as Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital and distinguish guests were present in the virtual inauguration ceremony.

The vision center will provide eye health care services including primary eye care, children’s eye screening, refraction and referral of the patient to the base hospital at Chandpur for cataract, phacoemulsification, DCR and other surgeries.

Informing about Vision Center services, MA Masud Bhuiyan, Honorary General Secretary of Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital said, a vision center is a permanent eye care facility, set up at the community level (of hard to reach area), people can now treat their eyes and have opportunity to get further treatment through Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Munir Ahmed, Country Director, Orbis International Bangladesh said, this is a remarkable moment for the people of Kachua and achievement for Orbis, as the vision center has brought eye health care services to the people of this remote area. For last more than 30 years, Orbis is working to ensure quality eye care services in Bangladesh. Telling about telemedicine support facility in the vision center, Dr. Munir Ahmed told ophthalmologists from the base hospital at Chandpur will examine patients’ eyes, or check-in about treatments.

Appreciating Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital and Orbis International Bangladesh, Donors from Hong Kong said, people of Kachua is fortunate to get a vision center for quality eye health services. Orbis’s contribution in eye health sector of Bangladesh is notable. It will have important role to eradicate avoidable blindness from this area.

Among others, Mary Lau, Executive Director, Orbis Hong Kong; Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Sk, Chief Consultant, Mazharul Haque BNSB Eye Hospital, Chandpur and Mohammed Alauddin, Director of Programs, Orbis International Bangladesh were present in the event.

Orbis International, Bangladesh Country Programme is supporting its partners to set up vision centers across the country to provide quality eye care to remote areas of Bangladesh. Till now, Orbis has established 29 vision centers and partners of Orbis International Bangladesh are managing 38 more vision centers across the country.
