Humanist Buddhist monk Ven. Prajnananda Mahathera received the Education Watch Award for Outstanding Contribution to Education and Social Reform on 9 March 2023.
The award was given at a ceremony to mark the 16th anniversary of the education magazine ‘Education Watch’.
Buddhist monk Prajnananda Mahathera has been working for a long time in the education and socio-economic development of the tribal living in the three hill districts.
Mahathera was born on February 1, 1952 in Babuchara village of Dighinala upazila of Khagrachari district. His father is Narendra Lal Chakma and mother is Indrapati Chakma.
Prajnananda Mahathera obtained BA Honors and MA in Bengali Literature from University of Chittagong and MA degree in Pali literature from Dhaka University. He took up monastic life immediately after passing Secondary and concentrated on human service.
He built the Shishu Shikkha Sadan named 'Moanoghar' and 14 educational, training and service institutions. He successfully served as General Secretary of Parbatya Bhikkhu Sangha, Bangladesh and President of Parbattya Bouddha Sangha.

Prajnananda Mahathera on receiving the award.
