Although the inoculation of residential students of public universities has started, National University (NU) and it's affiliated college students will be jabbed at the end, said The University Grants Commission (UGC).

According to UGC sources, after the residential students of public universities, non-residential and private university students will be vaccinated. With this vision, a list of 775,000 students of public and private universities has recently been sent to the Information and Management Department of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). The registration process for the vaccine will start once the input is given in the 'Surokkha' app as per the list.

UGC Secretary Professor Ferdous Zaman told the media on Wednesday, "At the moment, the process of vaccinating more than one lakh residential students of public universities is ongoing. When it is done, the students of non-residential and private universities will be vaccinated."

The UGC official said there are plans to reopen the university as soon as the vaccination is completed. The government is seriously considering the issue of vaccinating students.

He added that the students of the National University and its affiliated colleges will get the vaccine at the end, when public and private university students are done with the vaccination. Therefore, information of the students of these colleges are being collected. At the end of the data collection, the list will be sent to DGHS.

Out of 39 lakh students studying in higher education in the country, 4 lakh are from public universities. The rest are from private and NU affiliated colleges.

Of these, only public universities have started vaccinating students, but there is no decision on the vaccination of seven colleges affiliated to Dhaka University. As a result, there has been worry among the students and parents of the concerned institutions. The UGC says that all students in the country will be vaccinated and then physical education activities will start.
