The US Ambassador to Bangladesh Peter Haas held a meeting with Prime Minister’s special envoy for climate change Saber Hossain Chowdhury, MP, at the latter’s residence at Paribagh in the city on Monday.
The US envoy entered house of Saber Hossain Chowdhury at about 2:15pm and stayed there till 4:00pm.
On Thursday, Peter Haas held a meeting with foreign secretary Masud Bin Momen at the state guesthouse Padma in the city. However, none of them said anything to the media about the meeting or shared anything on social media platform after the event.
When contacted, the US embassy in Dhaka in the past week, however, said that as diplomats talked to a wide variety of organisations, institutions, and people that helped them better understand Bangladesh and strengthen their bilateral relations.
The meetings were held amid a political turmoil over the upcoming general elections expected to be held by January next year.
The United States of America has recently been pressing for a free, fair and peaceful election in Bangladesh.
The US ambassador has already urged political parties to hold a dialogue without any preconditions to resolve the ongoing crisis in the country—a call later rejected by prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
