Two girls reportedly committed to suicide on Sunday as their parents scolded them for showing apathy in study at Bagha upazila in Rajshahi.
The deceased were identified as Trisha Khatun,17, a college student and daughter of Saiful Mondal, of Khoyerhat village, and Mukti Akhter, 14, a ninth grader and daughter of Mokbul Hossain of Horipur village in the upazila.
Locals said, Trisha allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself with the ceiling fan at her house on Sunday morning and earlier on Saturday night, Mukti also reportedly committed suicide by taking poison as their parents rebuked them in order to be inattentive in study. Mohoshin Ali, officer in charge of Bagmara police station, confirmed the matter.
