Two killed in Rajshahi lightning

Two persons including a school student were killed and another was injured by being struck in lightning at Durgapur and Paba upazilas in Rajshahi on Wednesday afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Sagar Ahmed, 15, son of Abdul Alim of Jugisho village of Durgapur upazila and a student of class eight of a local school, and Selim Hossain, 22, son of Abdul Bari of Sealbera village under Paba upazila.

Rabbani, brother of deceased Sagar, said watching the clouded sky, Sagar went to the field to bring back their family cowherds around 5-00 pm on Wednesday when lightning struck him. He was killed on the way to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Durgapur upazila Nirbahi Officer Liton Sarker and local police officials visited the spot. The UNO handed over Taka 10,000 to the family of deceased student Sagar.

Meanwhile, Tofazzal Hossain, uncle of deceased Selim, said during rain last evening Selim and Mostafa were standing beside a tree in a mango orchard when they were struck by lightning injuring them both. Later on, local people rescued and took them to RMCH when attending doctors declared Selim dead. Injured Mostafa was admitted to RMCH in a critical condition.
