Mohanpur thana police recovered dead bodies of two women from villages Padmabel and Durgapur at Mohanpur upazila on Saturday morning.

One of the women was killed after rape and another committed suicide, police suspects.

The deceased were identified as Asma Begum, 40, wife of Babul Islam of Hatra village and Anwara Begun, 48, wife of Bulbullah of Durgapur village of Mohanpur upazila.

Police said, the dead body of Anwara was seen hanging from the ceiling of her room while the dead body of Asma Begum was found dumped inside a water body half a kilometre away from her house.

Misraque Ahmed, Officer-in-charge of Mohanpur police station informed, while grazing goats, two children at first found the body of Asma Begum. Being informed, police went to the spot and recovered the dead body. There were injury marks on the legs and face of the victim and a packet of condom also recovered from the spot which suggests Asma was killed after rape, police said.

Meanwhile, quoting family members of Anwara Begum, police said the victim had been suffering from complex incurable diseases for a long time. Failing to bear the pangs of disease, she might commit suicide by hanging herself with the ceiling of her room on Friday night. Police recovered her dead body on Saturday noon.

Dead bodies of both victims were sent to the morgue of RMCH for autopsy.
