Madinatul Kubra Jerin, an SSC candidate in Habiganj, died after jumping from a CNG-run autorickshaw to escape abduction. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Habiganj Mohammad Ullah said this at a press conference at his office on Tuesday.
The victim's father filed a murder case accusing three persons with Habibganj Sadar Model Police Station. One of the accused Zakir Hossain, 20, son of Didar Hossain of Dhal village of Habiganj Sadar upazila, gave confessional statement before the court.
The remaining two accused of the case autorickshaw driver Noor Alam, 20, son of Abdul Hai of Patuli village, and Hriday Miah, 20, son of Abdul Razzaq of the same village under Sadar upazila, have not been arrested till now. They are under close suvilance of police, said the SP. The SP said Jerin, daughter of Abdul Hai of Dhal villag, was a talented student of Richi High School. Zakir often used to propose love to Jerin.
Being refused, Zakir planned to abduct her. They tried to abduct Jerin while she was going to school in the CNG-run autorickshaw of Noor Alam. However, to escape the abduction Jerin jumped out of the autorickshaw.
Locals rescued her in injured condition and took her to Habiganj Modern District Sadar Hospital. She was reffered to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries on Sunday morning (January 19).
Local people and Jerin’s classmates staged demonstration demanding arrest and punishment of the culprits.
Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Habiganj Rabiul Islam said more clues would be found when the remaining two accused are arrested.
Habiganj Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Masuk Ali and other officials were present at the press conference.
