Titas gas loses huge revenue for illegal connections in N’ganj

Though the government has been loses a huge amount of revenue in last ten years ,a section of influential people taking handsome amount of money from newly house constructed people giving illegally gas connection with collaboration of gas officials at night in different areas of the district though it is absolutely ban to give new domestic gas connection since 2013.

All the five upazila areas of the district it has been learnt that the number of illegal gas connections is more than legal gas connections resulting in the legal consumers getting low flow gas which hampering their kitchen and other activities.

The legal gas consumers being annoyed demonstrated against gas authority at Rupganj upazila and Sonargaon upazila immediately.

Authority of the Narayanganj Titas gas, however, has conducted separate drives against illegal gas connection at Rupganj, Sonargaon and Bandar upazila area and in that drive many more legal gas consumers connections have been disconnected. After that the sufferers raised their voice and addressed in the demonstration that the gas office had done the drive without justifying who is legal and who is illegal.

To collect the opinion made a phone call to the deputy managing director of Narayanganj Titas gas office at his office number didn't get any answer in this regard.

A source of Titas gas office requesting not to disclose his name said that at least fifty thousand illegal domestic, commercial and industrial connections are available in the district.     

Local influential people act as brokers to collect the people who made houses and are eager to take domestic gas lines, alluring them saying that nothing will be a problem if you pay handsome money.

At best, it is needed ten thousand taka to take domestic gas lines legally. However, the fraud gang realizes two to three lakh taka from the house holder giving them an illegal gas connection.

Sometimes, after getting information the high officials of Titas gas disconnect such illegal connections. Illegal consumers again set up a line at night.

As the Titas gas domestic pipeline connection is banned by the government, the tout gang collects large amounts of money from new house builders and runs their illegal business.

Narayanganj sadar upazila a crowded zone Kashipur union where hundreds illegal gas connection providers were found headed by Ahmed Hossain Raju alias Raju Prodhan of West Deobhog Banglabazar area inhabitant. The other members of the gang Titas gas Narayanganj office staff Rafik, Selim, Meer Hossain and two gas contractors named Omor Faruk  and Eklasuddin.

Such syndicates are available in the district at all three Titas gas offices in five upazilas.

In the last one year this gang gave more than two hundred houses illegal gas connections and income of at least two crores taka.

When contacted with contractor Faruk Ahmed about illegal gas connection he replied that all are thieves of the gas department from peon to upwards. Faruk Ahmed did his contractor job for ten years, by this time he built a five story building and three land plots at Deobhog area which cost to be two cores taka approximately.

However, the local influential person Ahmed Hossain Raju organized the illegal process, said a sufferer in an anonymous condition.

Trying to know how many legal gas connections in the district made a cell phone call to Deputy Managing Director engineer Imammuddin Sheikh but he did not attend the call.

A five story house owner Mohiuddin Mohi of Adarshanagar village under Fatulla police station in Sadar upazila told that he had been paying illegal amount of money monthly in Titas office for his illegal gas connection.
