Tigers suffer whitewash

Pakistan scalped a clean sweep over the host Bangladesh by registering a 5-wicket win in the third and final T20I at the Sher e Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur on Monday.

Pakistan secured the last over thrill to reach the paltry target of 125 when they needed 8 runs in the last over. The visitors lost three wickets in the 20th over led by Mahmudullah Riyad, who returned figures of three wickets in one over but gave away 10 runs. 

Mahmudullah returned Sarfaraz Ahmed (6), Haider Ali (45) and Iftikhar Ahmed (6) before Mohammad Nawaz sealed the match with a boundary, when it was 2 needed off 1 ball. Tigers did fight till the end but it was never enough throughout the series.

Haider smashed 45 runs off 38 balls hitting three 4’s and two sixes before getting caught by Najmul Hasan Shanto off Mahmudullah.

Shohidul Islam took his maiden international wicket when he axed wicket-keeper batter Rizwan Khan on 40 off 43 deliveries aided by two fours and a six.

After opting to bat first once again, Bangladesh failed with it and scored 124 runs for the loss of 7 wickets after the allotted 20 overs. Thanks to Mohammad Naim, 50-ball 47.

Debutant Shahnawaz Dahani scalped his first T20I wicket by removing Najmul Hossain Shanto for 5 runs in his opening over.

Shamim Hossain and Afif played brief innings of 22 and 20 runs respectively. Though, Afif added 43 runs with Naim for the third wicket stand.

Naim was dismissed on 47 when playing a low-full toss ball by Mohammad Wasim. In the same over he returned Nurul Hossain Sohan with a catch to Usman Qadir.

Then Mahmudullah was dismissed on 13 off 14 balls by Haris Rauf caught at the deep square leg by Wasim.

Wasim and Qadir shared four wickets of Bangladesh’s seven wickets in eight overs.
