Tigers looking forward to wining series decider match today

Published : 19 Mar 2023 08:56 PM

Aiming to grab the ODI series one match left to play, Tigers will take on the visitors Ireland in the second match at the Sylhet Stadium today.

Bangladesh are leading the three-match series by 1-0 after thrashing Ireland by 183 runs after posting the highest total in ODI at the same ground on Friday in the first match.

Tigers are cleanly favourites against the visitors, as Ireland have only two wins against their eight defeats in the head to head record of both the teams in the ODI with there was no result for one match when they played 11 matches (before this match).

Meanwhile, Bangladesh have no record of defeat against Ireland at their home venue when played five ODI matches they won all.

However, Bangladesh obviously are eyeing to looking forward to wrapping up the three-match ODI series without any trouble with winning the match today.

In fact Ireland could not make any challenge to Bangladesh who have been invincible at the home for the last eight years. In this period they lost just two series and both were against England including the recent one.

Even if the recent form and strength, all are in favoure of Bangladesh, as they are on course for another comprehensive victory to seal the series.

But Bangladesh’s head coach Hathurasingha’s plan is to rotate the players in this series to create enough options for the upcoming World Cup, as he told it to media before the first ODI, regarding omission of MahmudullahRiyad from first two ODI.

Tigers who had the rest day yesterday, captain senior player Shakib Al Hasan, utilized the day off to return to Dhaka to join the convocation of his university (American International University of Bangladesh-AIUB) where he was offered his BBA degree.

Ireland will also try everything to turn around the fortunes at least to halt the series on 1-1, though it will be a tough task for the Irish.

Ireland captain Andrew Balbirnie said after the first match, “At the halfway stage, we weren’t too disappointed. The wicket was the best to bat on when we started but those 4-5 wickets cost us. We don’t want to use lack of experience as an excuse but they did look in rhythm and played very well,’.

“But the beauty of it is we will get another chance on Monday. We want to compete but do better than we did today, especially with the bat.”

Meanwhile, the successful start might be a big moral strength for the Tiger, as besides his 93 runs innings and economy bowling with taking wicket, debutant TawhidHridoy also made a big contribution in their victory with scoring 92 runs, Mushfiqur Rahim, Nazmul Hossain Shanto, even bowlers did their proper job in the first match, as Bangladesh posted their highest ever total of 338 runs in the ODI and restricted them on 155 runs.

So how will the Tigers do their many roles theywill have to play in what is a series decider match for them.

Obviously, innings like those deserve to be a victorious, is highly expected from the batters, as they performed in the first ODI and as well as bowlers who had also bog support of winning the previous match will have to appear with the spirit.

Ebadot, Taskin, Mustafiz, Shakib, Mehidy Hassan Miraz, Nasum Ahmed will have to appear with their fierce mood, as bowlers must deserve credits for their way they controlled their bowling line and length to book the opponents cheaply.

Batting, bowling and fielding, Bangladesh had control throughout the match, as handled the situation well and really deserved to win the game.

The first win marks a successful start for Tigers and that is a big advantage for them to win the series before to play the last match.
