Chuadanga municipality is going to witness a three-cornered fight in mayor port involving two major parties and one independent candidate.
The three candidates, who will face the three-cornered battle, are Awami League-nominated candidate Jahangir Alam Malik Khokon, BNP-nominated candidate Sirazul Islam Moni and BNP’s rebel Mozibul Hoque Malik.
The elections to the municipality will be held on December 28. The other mayor candidates in the elections are Tusar Imran of Islami Andolon Bangladesh (IAB), independent candidates Tanbhir Ahmmed Musraki, Advocate Monibul Hasan Polash and Advocate Seyeed Faruque Uddin. All candidates of mayor and councilor posts have been moving door to door for canvas of election and urging the voters to cast their votes in favor of them.
Some voters of the areas told the Bangladesh Post that Awami League nominated candidate is ahead among other candidates. They said Awami League is now very organized organization in Chuadanga. All leaders, activists and supporters work with attention and jointly for motivation of voters to impress bottom of Boat on the vote day. So the Awami League nominated candidate Khokon are now very strong and close in touch of voters.
On the other hand, Moni has been contesting in the election to take sheriff of paddy, but Mojo, joint convener of district BNP did not get party nomination as he has been contesting as rival candidate of BNP. For this reason, district BNP is now into two parts. One part (Sharif group) is working with Moni and another part (Ohidul group) is working for Mojo. So the position of BNP are not good. People are waiting who will be second in the vote race Moni or Mojo.
Awami League candidate Khokon has worked as councilor for 32 years incumbent in the pourasabha. Besides he has experienced as panel mayor or in charge mayor. Every corner of the poura areas knows him very much. At present he is joint secretary of Chuadanga poura awamileague.
In a question of answer he said, he has vast knowledge to run the municipality. He knows how to behave with people and how to develop the municipality.
BNP candidate Moni said he worked as councilor for three terms in the municipality. As he thinks voters never deprive him.
BNP rival candidate Mojo told, he has been servicing to the people of the areas through BNP. So he is known to all and expects to win in the election.
Rest of the mayoral candidates work slowly with voters for contesting in mayoral posts.
It may be mentioned here that about 67,808 voters are in the poura elction. So 32,818 male and 34,990 female voters are in the municipality. They will get opportunity to exercise the franchise. At least 33 vote centers will be set up for conducting the election.
