Tanzid Hasan, who made a surprise entry into the starting batting line-up, played a splendid 84-run inning. His crucial contribution paved the way for an eventual victory for Bangladesh in the third and last match to seal the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.

It was a strong comeback for Bangladesh after their T20 series defeat in Sylhet to win the ODI series in Chattogram, but apart from the impressive all-round bowling effort, Tanzid Hasan’s 84 off 81 balls played a vital role in the Tigers' win.

Tanzid’s rapid fire led Bangladesh's recovery of middle-order collapse to bring the team to 135 for five. When captain Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, and Mahmudulla Riyad, one after another, left Tanzid in regular intervals, the opener showed some of his boldness in facing the Sri Lanka bowling attacks.

Tanzid, who made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup in Pallekele, was out for a duck and could score in his second match only nine runs, but in his third appearance against Sri Lanka, the youngster proved his mettle, scoring his career-best 84 runs on Monday in Chattogram. For Tanzid, having the opportunity to play the match was quite accidental, as Bangladesh saw a huge setback during their fielding with five fielders getting injured, including Soumya Sarker, and in the absence of Soumaya Sarker due to injury, he was replaced as opener.

During fielding, Mushfiqur Rahim was the first to get hurt when a Taskin delivery struck his left hand. Mustafizur and substitute Jaker Ali stretched out of the ground.

Anamul Haque left the field for a while with a finger injury before Mustafizur pulled up at the start of his last over. But Somouya Sarkar’s getting out might be a vital incident, as Tanzid was replaced for one of the openers when Litton Das was not considered and Soumaya was ruled out for injury.  Soumaya hurt his knee shortly after trying to stop a boundary before Anamul and Jaker collided around the cover-point region in the last over while going for a catch.

Tanzid having the opportunity showed his potential and the courage to fight alone against flow when, in his 84 off 81 balls innings, he cracked nine boundaries and four sixes.

Tanzid, with his responsible as well as attacking batting powers, could draw the attention of the selectors.
