Suspected Rohingya robber killed in ‘gunfight’

A suspected Rohingya robber was killed in a reported gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Cox’s Bazar.The incident took place at Khandakarpara area under Teknaf upazila in the district on Friday.

Abdullah Md Sheikh Sadi, assistant director (Media) of RAB-15, confirmed the matter. 

The deceased was identified Mohammad Ishak, 32. RAB said that he was a member of a Rohingya robber gang called 'Jocky Bahini'. Abdullah Md Sheikh Sadi said that on information that a gang of robbers had gathered near Khandakarpara in Teknaf, a RAB patrol team conducted a drive there. 

As soon as the patrol team arrived, the robbers opened fire at them, forcing RAB members to fire back in self-defence. Later, they found Ishak’s bullet-ridden body on the spot and took him to Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital where the on-duty doctors declared him dead, he added.

RAB also recovered two guns and six rounds of bullets from the spot and a case has been filed at Teknaf police station in connection with the incident, he also said.
