Since the beginning of the pandemic government has been taking various steps to curb the virus transmission. We know that Eid-ul-Adha is just around the corner and every year in the cattle markets countless cattle are sold in the capital. Amid the pandemic the cattle trade in the markets will increase the risk of covid transmission and hence, health guidelines are needed to be followed strictly.

It is good to note that the two city corporations are going to adopt strict policy measures in order to maintain a safe and hygenic environment  in the cattle market. According to a report published in this daily on Wednesday, authorities concerned has planned to run a 10-day training campaign for imams and butchers all over the capital.

The campaign would be executed within July 1 to July 14. Reportedly, the training cam[paign would focus on maintaining safety measures during the Eid and adapting hygiene guidelines while slaughtering and processing the cattle. On top of that, awareness leaflets would be distributed among the people to make them more cautious during their visit to the markets.

Other initiatives can also be implemented. We know that amid the pandemic there has been a huge growing demand in the digital platforms for buying and selling cattle during the Eid ul Adha. Therefore, the e-commerce platform can also be utilised so that sellers can capitalise on the market opportunity and reach more growing customers.

To reduce the high risks in the cattle markets associated with cash transactions, authorities concerned can look for alternate methods of transaction. Digital mode of payment like mobile money service can be used as a potential alternative.
