Stocks witness up on large-cap vibe

Stocks on Wednesday witnessed upward trend as major indices of both Dhaka and Chittagong Stock Exchanges were found rising trend with higher activities of some large-cap securities despite lower transactions.

The rising major sectors were insurance and engineering. A total of 145 securities of the large-cap group moved up on higher activities, BSS reports. The broader DSEX index of the DSE closed the session with 14.10 points up
at 5,250.95. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 1.32 points up at 1,196.54 and with 7.54 points up at 1,830.32 respectively.

The volume of shares fell to 8.61 crore from Tuesday’s 10.84 crore shares and the daily turnover in value at DSE decreased to Taka 290.54 crore from Tuesday’s Taka 351.70 crore.

At the DSE, price of 191 securities out of the day’s 342 traded issues closed higher against 92 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Global Insurance, City General Insurance, OIMEX, Islami Insurance and VAMLBDMF while the major losing issues were Rupali Life, Berger PBL, Jute Spinning, VAMLRBBF and Bank Asia.

Fortune topped the turnover leaders followed by Brac Bank, JMISMDL, UPGDCL and ECABLES.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with upward trend with its major CASPI 34.88 points up at 16,042.83. At the CSE, 227 issues were traded. Of those, 119 closed higher and 72
closed lower while 43.93 lakh shares worth Taka 14.75 crore changed hands.
