Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md Tajul Islam on Friday said the government has taken steps to eliminate corruption from the society, reports BSS.

“As per the election manifesto, the government has taken a zero tolerance policy to corruption…we have taken initiatives to eliminate cent percent corruption,” he told a seminar in the capital. Dhaka Utility Reporters Association (DURA) arranged the seminar on ‘The Role of Local Government in Ensuring Civic Amenities’ at Jatiya Press Club, a press release said.

We have reduced water congestion in the city to a large extent with an integrated effort of all agencies,” he said.

It is true that there are some problems in Dhaka city, the minister said, adding that no country would be found in the world where cent percent civic problem is addressed. “All government agencies concerned are working with ensuring coordination to this end. Coordination is required every day in addressing new problems. As per our capacity, we are working with coordination. I think there is no lack of coordination,” he added.

About dengue situation, Tajul said the city corporations have been working to prevent dengue menace, while parliament members are cooperating with the corporations. Chaired by DURA president Moshiur Rahman Khan, the seminar was addressed, among others, by architect Iqbal Habib, general secretary of Bangladesh Institute of Planners (BIP), Dr Adil Mohammad Khan, Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) chief executive officer Abdul Hye and former chief executive officer of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Ansar Ali Khan.
