SSC, HSC exams depends on Covid situation

Education Minister Dipu Moni said that the decision regarding SSC and HSC exams this year will depend on the Covid-19 situation of the country.

She was speaking at the inauguration of a tree-planting program at Jajira Mohammadia Alia Madrasa in Dhaka's Keraniganj on Tuesday on the occasion of the golden jubilee of independence.

Earlier on Sunday, Dipu Moni said that they are trying to take the SSC and HSC exams of the year based on the short syllabus. If that is not possible, alternatives will be considered.

A short syllabus of 60 working days for SSC and 84 working days for HSC had been published. However, even after making announcements more than once, the educational institution could not be opened.

Experts believe that if it is not possible to take the exams in any way, students should be evaluated via assignments.

In the meantime, assignments have been given to the SSC candidates of 2022. Similarly, this year's SSC and HSC candidates could also follow the same path.

Last year, HSC exams were evaluated on the basis of JSC and SSC exams, but it was rather tagged as “auto-pass”.

Previously, the education minister said that the students definitely need to be evaluated. If the situations get better, full attempts would be made to execute the exams. However, if that is not possible, there would be no other way than to consider other means.

Jawad Mahmud, guardian of an SSC candidate of the current year expressed that the students need to be involved in studies by any means.

He told Bangladesh Post, “The year should not be a loss (time) for students. Education institutes should reopen as everything is open now. If not, they should be able to come out with a result somehow.”

The educational institution was scheduled to open from last Sunday. However, due to the rise of Covid-19, educational institution has been declared to remain closed till June 30.

With Eid-ul-Azha approaching along with the current rise in the virus infections and deaths, the chances of educational institution reopening soon are slim.
