Special JS session on Mujib Barsha

The National Parliament is going to celebrate the 100th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman through organising a special session. For the first time, a special session will be called to discuss various aspects of the life and works of Bangabandhu. Notable, three sub-committees have already been formed with all the parliamentary committees to carry out various programmes throughout the year.

Primarily it has been decided to erect a Bangabandhu stage on the Parliament premises. Apart from the parliament members, anyone will get the chance to discuss the life and works of the country’s legendary leader. On the occasion, greetings will be sent to world’s parliament speakers. Sources from the Parliament said to celebrate ‘Mujib Year’ parliament is thinking to organize several exciting programmes. More than 100 draft proposals have already been prepared in this connection which will be finalised by next two months.

Recently a meeting was held at the parliament participated by all parliamentary standing committee presidents. The meeting formed three sub-committees. Of them, two sub-committees on publication have already started working. The third sub-committee has been endowed with the duty of preparing the list of foreign guests and looking after arrangements for their accommodation. A total of 1200 employees of the Parliament Secretariat would work together to make the endeavour successful.

From the primary programme details it was learnt that various programmes would be organised round the year at the Bangabandhu stage to be erected on the Parliament premises. Special parliament season will be called where foreign guests will also attend. Moreover, a number of seminars and symposiums will also be arranged with the participation of local and foreign guests.

Special gift packets will be sent to all the parliament speakers of the world on behalf of Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, containing English version of the Autobiography of Bangabandhu. Other publications, brochures and memorial coin. Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury while discussing about her plan to celebrate ‘Mujib Year’ told the media: “It’s a big issue in our country’s context, celebrating Bangabandhu’s 100th birth anniversary. It is a historic matter and we are going to be a part of this. This will be a milestone for us.”

She said, “We want to give a message to our future generation about the person for whom today we are here in the parliament.We are going to celebrate his life. A great leader does not belong to his nation only.” She said many proposals about the programmes have been placed. Coordination in this regard is very important. We are looking forward to celebrating the great leader’s 100th birth anniversary from parliament perception.

“We want to inform all the parliaments of the world about our great leader’s 100th birth anniversary. I have my own thoughts and that is, a package of gift with a copy of book on Bangabandhu’s life, some other publications or memorial coin will be sent to world parliament speakers. Programmes will be arranged throughout the year.

At the moment parliament is finalizing procedures as to how to call a special session on Bangabandhu. How the session will be designed, who will participate and speak, these are under consideration. Among several proposals, Bangabandhu stage is major one and this will be kept for a year.
