Speaker joins daily Sun’s founding anniv prog

Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury has said that media plays significant role in strengthening democracy through objective journalism. She said the government has ensured freedom of press and free flow of information to facilitate objective journalism. She was addressing the ninth founding anniversary of English newspaper Daily Sun in the capital’s Bashundhara residential area on Thursday. Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, Co-Chairman Sadat Sobhan Tanvir and Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury were also present on the occasion.

“As pro-liberation media, the Daily Sun projects success stories of Bangladesh. The newspaper is expected to continue objective journalism for betterment of country and its people,” said the Speaker Shirin Sharmin. Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said Daily Sun and other media outlets of East West Media Group Ltd have been going ahead with impartial journalism.

“We stand by people and the country at large. Bangladesh has achieved unprecedented socioeconomic development due to apt leadership and good policies of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. We want to be a part the development journey,” he said. He also mentioned that Daily Sun will keep its impartial stance in presenting news and upholding the country globally.

Daily Sun Editor Enamul Hoque Chowdhury said the Daily Sun maintains a standard in gathering information and presenting news. “We practice objective journalism and project positive stories on Bangladesh. A group of experienced and young journalists under the supervision of quality seniors are putting in their best efforts to take the newspaper to a new height.”

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said the media has significant responsibility in empowering people and the Daily Sun works to this effect. Among others, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, BNP standing committee member Mahbubur Rahman, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader, Secretary General Mashiur Rahman Ranga, former Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howlader, Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Managing Director Abul Kalam Azad, Jatiya Press Club General Secretary Farida Yasmin were also present on the occasion.
