Speaker for imbuing new generation with Liberation War spirit

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury Saturday stressed on exercising true history of the Liberation War to imbue the new generation with its sprit, reports BSS.

“The true history of the Liberation War should be spread among generation after generation as the youths can take the country ahead being imbued with the spirit of the Liberation War,” she told a function organized to accord a reception to freedom fighters, sector commanders and artistes at Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) auditorium here.

Describing freedom fighters as the great sons of this soil, Dr Shirin said women freedom fighters had also great contributions to the Liberation War.

She said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had a dream to build a Sonar Bangla ensuring economic and political emancipation of the people.

Bangabandhu’s daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly to build a hunger-poverty and repression free Sonar Bangla as dreamt by the Father of the Nation, she said.

Dr Shirin said Bangladesh has become a role model of development under the dynamic leadership of the premier.

She said the country has already attained the status of a lower middle income country and expressed her hope that Bangladesh will be a developing country by 2024 and a developed one by 2041.

The speaker said the prime minister is very sincere to ensure the well being of the freedom fighters. In 2019-20 fiscal, allowance of freedom fighters has been increased, she said.

Former chairman of Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council Major General (retd) Helal Morshed Khan, Bir Bikram, Sector Commander Major General (retd) KM Shafiullah, Bir Uttam, cultural personality Ramendu Majumder, actor Professor Dr Enamul Haque and Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation general secretary and freedom fighter Osman Ali addressed the function, among others.

Former minister and freedom fighter Shajahan Khan, MP, KM Shafiullah, Ramendu Majumder, Dr Enamul Haque and Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendro singer Monoranjan Ghosal were accorded a reception at the function.
