South-western farmers busy with cultivating T-Aman

Farmers have been passing very busy times with cultivating Transplanted Aman (T-Aman) paddy in six districts of south-western region during the current season.

The six districts are - Jashore, Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia, Chuadanga and Meherpur. The farmers are happy to see bumper production of Aman paddy and the whole paddy fields are adorned in golden colours.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) officials here said a target was fixed to produce 13 lakhs metric tons of T-Aman rice by cultivating T-Aman paddy on 4, 51,660 hectors of land in the districts this season. Of them, some 4,17,404 hectares of land were cultivated HYV (high yield variety), 30,476 hybrid and 3,780 hectares LV (local variety), sources said.

Additional Director of the DAE, Jashore, Parthopratim Saha told that following instructions of the government, different state-run organizations including BADC and BCIC have supplied improved quality Aman seeds and fertilizers to the doorsteps of the farmers.

Besides, different commercial banks including Bangladesh Krishi Bank and Sonali Bank have disbursed easy term loans among peasants to make T-Aman cultivation successful.
