A Barguna court on Wednesday placed Ayesha Siddika Minni, wife of slain Rifat Sharif, on a five-day remand. Judge Md Sirajul Islam Gazi of Barguna Judicial Magistrate Court granted the five-day remand after police had produced Minni before the court around 3pm seeking seven days remand. Earlier on Tuesday night, Minni, prime witness in Rifat murder case, was shown arrested.

She was brought to the police lines from her house at around 10:15am the same day for interrogation. Earlier on July 13, Rifat's father Dulal Sharif in a press conference claimed that Minni had a link in his son's murders and demanded arrest of his daughter-in-law. Dulal claimed that Minni had secretly married Nayan Bond, one of the killers, before his son, and that she, along with her family, hid the matter.

Dulal Sharif said, Minni used to visit Nayan’s home even after marrying his son. She regularly communicated with Bond. Terming her father-in-law’s allegation fabricated, Minni said at a press briefing the next day “My father-in-law is sick on losing his son. He frequently forgets what he said earlier. The main culprits are spreading false and fabricated news against me on social networking sites to divert the issue. They are posting my photos with Nayan Bond after editing. They are very influencial”.

Meanwhile, Nayan Bond’s mother also claimed that Minni had been visiting Nayan’s house even after her marriage. She came to their house before the day of Rifat’s murder. On July 2, Sabbir Hossain Nayan alias Nayan Bond, one of the two attackers who hacked Barguna youth Rifat Sharif, was killed in a “gunfight” with law enforcers.

On July 3, Police arrested another suspect Rifat Faraji in the Rifat Sharif murder case. On June 26, Rifat Sharif, 22, was hacked to death by criminals in front of his wife in broad daylight in the district town. The incident was caught on surveillance camera.
