A ship-breaking worker was burnt to death and five others sustained injuries while dismantling an abandoned ship in Baro Aulia area of Sitakunda upazila on Wednesday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was identified as Mohamamd Rubel, 25, a cutting worker of Premier Trade Corporation and Mahinur Ship Recycling Yard.
A fire broke out when workers were breaking up a ship, leaving six workers burnt injured, said Zahirul Islam, in-charge of CMCH, police out post.
They were taken to CMCH where the attending doctors declared Rubel dead.
Being informed, a fire service team rushed to the spot and doused the fire.
Five other workers – Masud, 19, Sohel, 22, Al Amin, 27, Mamunul Islam, 20, and Jalil have been admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
