A schoolgirl drowned in a pond at Dakatia village in Jashore Sadar upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Maria Khatun, 10, daughter of Tuhin Mollah and resident of the village.
Father of the victim Tuhin Mollah said Maria slipped into the pond near the house when she was taking bath there in the morning.
Later, the family members rescued her and sent to Jashore General Hospital where doctor declared her dead.
Emergency Department physician Kajal Mallick said Maria Khatun died at least two hour before being brought to the hospital.
She died on the way to the hospital.
