Md Aynal Haque, President of Savar municipal Krishak League committee is familiar to all municipal residents simply as ‘Gedu Bhai’.
Locals believe that, even if nobody comes forward to stand beside some helpless people, Gedu Bhai will come. They earnestly believe this, as they found him beside them in many distresses whenever they needed, even at midnight.
Gedu Bhai started his political life in 1999, with the aim of becoming a municipal councilor without any political party backup, when he was only a farmer. Following the aim, he worked hard to get closer to locals.
4 years later, he participated in the municipal polls in 2003 from Word no. 9 of Savar municipality and won by a large margin. Since then, he has been elected from the ward in every municipal polls.
“I don’t know why people love me, but I want their love until my death. I don’t need anything else”, Aynal Haque told Tphe Bangladesh Post.
When asked why he sells his land repeatedly before any municipal polls, and how he spend this money, he replied, “It’s true that I had to sell my lands multiple times, but I have no regret, nothing will go with me to the grave except peoples love”.
“Actually, I had to sell my land in 2003, as I did not have enough cash money in my hand at that time being a farmer. Some of this money I spent on election campaign and the rest on helping people after winning the polls”, He added.
Md. Razib, son of Aynal Haque said, “We repeatedly asked him to leave politics, as he cannot earn anything rather spends his own money on politics. But he doesn’t listen to us”.
“You may know that, people expect huge assistant from us, but we don’t get such monetary assistant to help them. People often come to me and ask to help them for wedding, medical treatment etc. So, the money, I got from selling my land, I spent in such cases to help them”, Aynal Haque said.
According to the information of Aynal’s family, Aynal Haque sold his land three times. In first phase, he sold 4 decimals of land for Tk 6 lakhs in 2003, 30 decimals of land for Tk 3.6 lakhs in 2010, and lastly 3 decimal land for Tk 90 lakhs in 2016.
Aynal Haque said Allah gave me a lot, I have no regret. I will participate again in next Savar municipal polls. I am hopeful that people will vote for me, and elected me again.
