Sandip Biswas making docu on Ahmed Sofa

The work of making a full-length documentary film titled ‘Ahmad Sofa: The Thinker of a Nation’ about great thinker Ahmed Sofa, a Bangladeshi writer. 

Producer Sandip Biswas is producing and directing the film. The first formal shooting of the documentary began in the house where Ahmed Sofa resided in Banglamotor, Dhaka before his death. 

Poet and filmmaker Tokon Tagore will inaugurate the shooting at 11am on February 21, 2020. 

This is the house where many of Ahmed Sofa’s popular novels were composed. ‘Pushpo Brikkho Ebong Bihongo Puran’ is popular among them.  The formal shooting of the film began by reminiscing him by two of his close family members. One of them is Nurul Anwar, the nephew of Ahmed Sofa, and Sushil Singh, Ahmed Sofa’s foster son. 

Also present at the inauguration were writer and filmmaker Reza Ghatak, filmmaker Abid Mallick, film activist and producer Sadek Hossain Sony and assistant director Pranto Biswas. The picture used in the poster of this film is by photographer Nasir Ali Mamun.

Director Sandip said, “The life and work of Ahmed Sofa, novels, essays, short stories, poems, translations and various other things will play an important part in the making of the film. Also, the young generation, celebrities and close people of Ahmed Sofa of the country will remember him.” There are plans to release the film towards the end of this year.

Ahmed Sofa was born in Chandnayesh of Chattogram on June 30, 1943 and passed away on July 28, 2001 at the age of 57. The rest of the shooting will be held in different locations including Dhaka, Kolkata, Chattogram and Narail.
