Sacrificial animal wastes will be removed by 10 pm of the eid day, said the Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Md. Tajul Islam.

He was responding to a question from reporters after a meeting with a delegation led by JICA Country Representative Yuho Hayakawa at the ministry’s own office on Thursday.

The minister said, “Animal sacrifices would start on the morning of Eid day. From then on, the work of removing animal waste will start. It has been directed to remove waste from all places between 6 pm and 10 pm. Instructions have also been given to all concerned including divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners and people’s representatives.”

He hoped that there would be no waste after 10 pm.

He said, “An inter-ministerial meeting has already been held on the overall preparations for the peaceful celebration of Eid including proper management of makeshift cattle market. The meeting decided to fulfill the responsibilities of each ministry.”

Noting that the rate of Coronavirus infection is increasing, the minister urged all people to follow proper hygiene rules in the animal market and celebrate Eid. The Ministry of Health has prepared guidelines for the people to follow the hygiene rules. According to that, they will sit in the animal market. Those who come to the market to buy and sell must follow the hygiene rules.”

The minister also said that there will be no market on the side of the road. The minister said, “The country has gone digital with the advice of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her ICT adviser Sajeeb Wazed Joy. As a result, Bangladesh Bank and City Corporation have jointly launched a program on the occasion of Eid to buy and sell animals without cash.”

In the context of the meeting Tajul Islam said, “JICA has expressed interest in financing the construction of Chittagong WASA sewage treatment plant and Matarbari coal-fired power plant with Maheshkhali and other areas. They have proposed to complete the two projects in Matarbari by 2025 at a cost of over Tk 6,000 crore.” Praising the development work of the Government of Bangladesh under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, JICA Representative Yuho Hayakawa expressed interest in investing in various projects proposed. He said JICA is on the side of Bangladesh and will continue to be so in the future.
