Russia keen to assist BS-2 launching

Russia is very much eager to assist Bangladesh in the overall aspect of the Bangabandhu Satellite-2 (BS-2) venture.  Russia's satellite technology company, Glavcosmos (Subsidiary of the state corporation Roscosmos), will cooperate in the technical and financial support of launching BS-2. In the meantime, the matter has already been finalized with stakeholders including the experts. As per the election manifesto, Russia has started its work under the Posts and Telecommunications Ministry to launch the satellite into orbit within 2023. A visiting Russian Glavcosmos delegation expressed such interest to Posts and Telecommunications minister Mustafa Jabbar while paying a courtesy call at his secretariat office on Tuesday. Russian ambassador, Alexander I Ignatov, led the five member delegation. Other members are Glavcosmos senior official Vitali Safonov, Sergey Barykin, Alexander Kvashnin, and Kirill Plotnikov. During the meeting, the Ambassador expressed his interest to facilitate the telecommunications sector to carry forward the ongoing digital transformation program of the country.

The delegation said, Russia would assist from scrutiny to technical and financial feasibility study to construct and finally launch BS-2. They have also proposed to cooperate in other areas of the telecommunication sector including Teletalk in Bangladesh.

Highlighting various programs adopted by the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Posts and Telecommunications Minister, Mustafa Jabbar said, in the continuation of ongoing development, the people have already started getting the facilities of Digital Bangladesh. 

He mentioned that in making Digital Bangladesh and the country’s digital transformation, Russia has huge potential to provide Bangladesh. It is very profitable to invest in the country for its investment-friendly policies.

Mentioning Russia's cooperation in the construction of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, he invited the delegation to make more investment taking the advantage of the investment-friendly policy of the country and hoped for stronger bilateral relationship in the coming days.

Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission Chairman, Md Jahurul Haque, Bangladesh Communication Satellite Company Limited Chairman Dr Shahjahan Mahmood, Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited managing director Md Azizul Islam, and ministry secretary Md Muhibur Rahman were present among others during the meeting.
